And, of course, a little something for everyone else. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out what gifts to get for everyone. Puerto Vallarta is just crawling with colorful open-air markets and adorable boutiques, so we want you to get the most out of your shopping excursions. Here’s a few shopping tops and a gift guide for everyone on your list.

The three major shopping plazas in Vallarta are The Marina Plaza, The Plaza Caracol and the Plaza Genovesa. Here you’ll find everything from pottery and sterling silver to clothing and groceries.

For Mom and Dad: The markets have tons of little stands and stores selling painted ceramics and other handcrafted items. How about a beautiful, hand-blown glass vase? Or, for those parents who love the touristy items: some colorful, Puerto Vallarta salt and peppershakers or coasters are cute too. Try places like Granada, La Reja, or Arte Popular Mexicano.

For the girlfriend OR your best gal pal: Sterling silver jewelry! Mexico is known for its beautiful and wide selection of silver. Make sure you look for the little .925 mark on the back of any silver item you buy, that’s how you know it’s real! Astrid and Pladi are two of the many places that you can find while shopping in PV.

For the neighbor that’s pet sitting for you: No matter what their taste, a piece of art is a thoughtful and timeless gift. Puerto Vallarta offers an amazing selection of Huichol art. Another perk: Art is duty free back into the U.S.! You’ll find a nice range of art in the different galleries, from small decorative items to pieces made by celebrated masters. For that helpful neighbor, try a small sculpture or a custom-made stained glass piece that captures the essence of the PV culture!

For the boyfriend: Leather goods are another Puerto Vallarta specialty. Any guy would surely love a new leather wallet or belt! For a simple guy, any of the many t-shirt shops will provide you with tons of tourist t-shirts, mugs and magnets. Wanna go for the cheesy approach? “Someone who loves me went to Puerto Vallarta and got me this t-shirt” will surely do the trick!

For anyone: Tequila! Mexico is known for it’s tequila and anyone would love to get a bottle as a gift. Don’t forget to throw in a lime and some salt!

Puerto Vallarta Vacations: Go Green!

Driving around in a Prius? Switching to energy-efficient light bulbs? Eating out of the new Sun Chips bag? However you’re making an effort to go green is awesome…now how about a green vacation? Here’s a list of 5 easy ways to stay green while you’re vacationing in Puerto Vallarta:

1. Pack a water bottle to refill instead of buying a plastic one each time you’re thirsty. Try a nice Nalgene or Camelbak one. Puerto Vallarta has the cleanest water in Mexico. Just to make sure though, ask the staff, “Agua purificada?” and you should be good to go! Take it with you when you go zip lining or ATV-ing, or even just lounging on the beach!

http://www.nalgene-outdoor.com/

http://www.camelbak.com/

2. Put the “Do Not Disturb” sign on your hotel room so you can skip the housekeeping. Cleaning hotel rooms’ daily wastes tons of electricity and cleaning supplies. Skip getting your bed made for a day and sleep in!

3. Hang your towels up to dry on the racks instead of requesting all new towels each day. This tip goes along with the whole wasted electricity notion.

4. Use public transportation when going to shop or explore. And, the bus system in Puerto Vallarta is something you’ve just got to see! The buses come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Each one is uniquely decorated, so bring the camera. They are very inexpensive and totally worth it. Sometimes, entertainers will sing and play instruments for the duration of the ride!

For more info and prices: http://vallarta-info.com/puerto-vallarta-transport.html

5. Be a conservationist for a day with EcoTours de Mexico! Activities like their Sea Turtle Camp and Whale Watching/Whale Adoption Program allow you to do your part for the wildlife of Puerto Vallarta and have fun at the same time.

Start planning your eco-adventure: http://www.ecotoursvallarta.com/index.php

Puerto Vallarta Vacations: For the Dating Vacationer

For some, the promise of an exciting vacation fling is the best part about travelling. Well, as it turns out there’s a lot you can to do help. If you’re looking for a volunteer opportunity we’ve found some great ones!

Don Quijote

Learn to speak Spanish and work with a local community at the same time! Don Quijote has put together a program that combines a 4-week Spanish course with 4 weeks of volunteer work with a charitable organization in the Puerto Vallarta. You will come get the opportunity to help with the issues that the local people of Puerto Vallarta face while getting a valuable learning experience in the process!

Children’s Shelter of Hope

The Children’s Shelter of Hope known as: Refugio Infantil Santa Esperanza (R.I.S.E.) shelters 45 children who are in need of housing and care. These children are usually very young but will likely live in the shelter until they are preteens. Catholic nuns live in the shelter to take care of the kids, as well as several other staff members. Volunteers from all over the world help by performing chores such as bathing, feeding, changing diapers, cleaning the facility, etc. If you’re good with children this could be a great opportunity to help kids that really need love and care.

The Ecology Group of Vallarta

This group of local citizens works constantly to conserve the natural beauty and wildlife of the area. They strive for a beautiful and even cleaner Puerto Vallarta. They welcome visitors to their activities and meetings. You could sign up for a beach clean up, which means you get to help the environment with your toes in the Puerto Vallarta sand!

So, whether you’re looking for a beautiful vacation spot or a place to do some good deeds, Puerto Vallarta has got you covered. This year Easter falls on April 4th. Whether you’re a student looking for an exciting spring break or a family looking for some Easter fun, Puerto Vallarta has so much to offer! Many events and festivals take place during this time, drawing lots of people to PV. Whale watching season ends in April so it’s one of your last chances to see the migrating Humpback whales. It’s a cultural event you don’t want to miss! These festivities along with so many others will entertain you during Easter break in Puerto Vallarta. Most resorts will also have Easter celebrations like special dinner parties and egg hunts for the kids. And personally, food is always on my mind! What I’m referring to is the Festival Gourmet International in Puerto Vallarta!

Every November visitors get to dive into a night of delicious dishes with cuisine from around the world. In Banderas Bay, food and drink lovers get to experience the cookery of local chefs, chefs from all over Mexico, and chefs from across the ocean! Scrambling trying to find plans? Consider Puerto Vallarta, you’ve still got some time to book! Puerto Vallarta offers an exciting nightlife, fun excursions and perfect tanning conditions for college students looking to get away with friends.

Many of the resorts will offer spring break packages or student rates that sweeten the deal. And, as much as Puerto Vallarta is a very family friendly destination; students know when it shows up on sites like StudentCity.com and Gradcity.com that they’ve got the party aspect of spring break covered.

Hot spots include places like your standard, Senor Frogs to local dance clubs like El Zoo downtown. For those wondering, the legal drinking age is 18; making Puerto Vallarta that much more appealing to thirsty spring-breakers. The nightlife here will definitely give students more than one or two facebook albums to fill up.

For daytime activities, most students love water sports like jet skiing and many indulge in the booze cruises that can be booked by the hotel concierge. College students looking for a spring break party on the beach should consider making their memories this year in Puerto Vallarta!

Puerto Vallarta Attractions: Botanical Gardens ATV tour

When it comes to vacationing, there are those who feel the best way to escape is to lounge by the pool, thoughtless, with the most physical activity being a reach for their daiquiri. But where is the real escape for the get up and go crowd? If you’re someone looking for an adventure, the Puerto Vallarta Botanical Garden 5-hour ATV tour could satisfy your “call of the wild”. You start off your journey in the Puerto Vallarta Botanical Gardens. Enjoy the view of the lush rain forest and the garden’s colorful orchids. While riding your very own ATV or sharing one with a relative, try to keep your eyes on the road, the gorgeous, natural waterfalls could be distracting!

The first stop on your tour will be to the village of Las Juntas y Veranos where the Don Chendo Tequila Distillery is. You’ll get to learn how tequila is made and taste some local varieties. One tequila, two tequila, three tequila…Hey, get back on your ATV!

Next, the tour stops at the Los Veranos petting zoo. You’ll have the opportunity to hold monkeys, a python, and tropical birds. Some other critters include tarantulas and scorpions; but we promise, petting every animal is completely optional!

Finally, you’ll ride to Chico’s Paradise. Hope you remembered your bathing suit! Here, cliff divers will impress you with their best tricks before you take a dip in the river yourself. Enjoy some playtime in the water and take a ride down the waterfall slide.

Although you’ll be wishing this day would never end, your expedition returns to the Botanical Gardens for either lunch or dinner (depending on your tour time) at the Plantation Restaurant.

You can book a tour for either 9:45am or 2:00pm and it’ll run for 5 hours. The price of the tour includes your one or two-person ATV, all of your equipment, entrance to the gardens, petting zoo and the tequila tasting. All you need to bring is a bathing suit, your driver’s license (to be eligible to drive your own ATV), extra money for meals, and of course, a craving for some adventure!

By: Brittany Mignanelli

Puerto Vallarta Attractions: Aquaventuras Water Park

Not enough water at the beach and the pool? Well, that’s hard to believe; but if you’re looking for some extra excitement and even more water, there’s a place you’ve got to visit on your Puerto Vallarta vacation. Aquaventuras Park is a 15-acre water park that has fun for the whole family.

However, this won’t be your typical water park experience. Along with several pool areas, ten toboggan water slides and a relaxing lazy river, Aquaventuras has some pretty talented creatures that you may want to meet. That’s right, you can get both an adventurous day at the park as well as the ever-popular dolphin encounter that so many vacationers enjoy. But, if you’ve already gotten kisses from dolphins, how about giving sea lions a try? At Aquaventuras, you have the opportunity to swim with both of these amazing animals.

So, when you’re done speeding down water slides and swimming with dolphins and sea lions, head on over to the sea lion show at 12:30 pm and the dolphin show at 1:00. These adorable, aquatic performers live to make you laugh with their outrageous stunts.

My biggest tip for your Aquaventuras day? Don’t forget your camera. This is one Puerta Vallarta experience that you’ll want to remember forever!

By: Brittany Mignanelli

A bird's eye view of Puerto Vallarta

The activities are never ending in Puerto Vallarta ranging from family fun in the day to parties in the nightlife. Today, I'm going to share my experience zip-lining through a jungle dubbed “Los Veranos.” In one word, it was breathtaking. Words can't effectively describe flying through a jungle, suspended in mid air, through the tops of lush canopies and finally over the Orquidias river.

It may sound cheesy but I literally felt like a bird. I mean, it felt like I was flying in midair like one and when I looked to my left and right I saw birds. And I am not talking about pigeons or any other average day American bird - colorful, tropical, exotic birds. I literally locked eyes with a Toucan! Not to mention other sightings of wild monkeys and ridiculous looking insects (not my favorite part, not the hugest fan of bugs). But it was an authentic experience! This was the bird’s eye view of paradise.

After your adventure through the jungle tops you fly over the rushing Orquidias River. The refreshing breeze off the river is just what you need after flying through the humid jungle canopies. It was somewhat of an adrenaline rush, to say the least, to look down from 500 feet to find only air between you and a roaring river. A rush I thoroughly enjoyed. The tour in all was 3 hours, 2 miles and 14 zip lines. Once I finished I felt I had visited another world and glimpsed a side of life not everyone gets a chance to see.

I think one of the main reasons I enjoyed this so much, aside from the obvious, is that it was so different from what I usually do on my vacations in Mexico. This was far from the all-inclusive resort with the beach 100 feet away and a daiquiri in your hand. Don’t get me wrong, that style of vacation is amazing as well but it was refreshing to spice it up. This felt more authentic, rural and adventurous. The canopy tour was only 3 hours, probably 5 with transportation and everything involved, which still leaves a good 8-10 hours to hang by the pool with your piña colada. Not to mention the rest of the days you are there. My consensus is - visit Puerto Vallarta , relax by the beach, zip-line and repeat. I plan on doing so myself in the very near future.

Puerto Vallarta Vacation Villas

Puerto Vallarta has all sorts of vacation villas you can rent. Bordered on its western side by the Bay of Banderas and the Sierra Madres on its eastern side, it combines natural beauty, traditional elements of Mexican culture, to the most opulent luxuries of resort living. Because of its blend of culture, Nature, and luxury, Puerto Vallarta’s offers something unique to everyone. It creates a feeling of timelessness and calm repose to those who come here. In Puerto Vallarta, no one ever feels agitated, and no one ever gets bored.

One of the first things you will notice when you visit Puerto Vallarta, Mexico is its richness of local culture and tradition mixed with modern luxuries. Old Town is only moments away from the Hotel Zone. It gives you an authentic experience of authentic Mexican culture. Traditional small towns are located just a short drive away. An old mining town called San Sebastian gives you a blend of history and the simple life of the 600 locals who still inhabit it. Another town to see is Tequila, which the world-famous drink is named after. Just down the road from PV, you can come here and see the agave plants from which the liquor is made.

The water in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico is absolutely incredible. The Bay of Banderas is actually the second largest natural bay in North America. You will find over 40 beaches along its shoreline. Northern beaches have water conditions that are perfect for a variety of water sports including parasailing, surfing, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Southern beaches are more secluded and romantic. Some can only be accessed by boat, and many lie within coves formed by mountains that come all the way down to the sea.

Art and music abound throughout Puerto Vallarta. There are live events featuring all types of music. Local sculptures and artists create displays on the beaches. Hundreds of exhibits and performers can be found on any given day throughout the entire region. Arts and crafts based on both pre-Columbian religion and Catholic themes are equally popular.

If you like to play golf, you will find some fantastic courses designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf. Some of these courses are built right alongside the Sierra Madres. At the same time, more contemporary architectural elements are integrated into traditional motifs. Since PV is famous among celebrities, it does tend to attract not only movie stars, but also architects and designers who bring a wealth of creative talent to the area.

Other characteristics of Puerto Vallarta condo are private terraces, swimming pools, spacious rooms with period and historical furnishings, and off-street parking for rental cars. Water temperatures here normally hover in the low 70s until late April, and then begin climbing to the high 80s in August. Yellowfin tuna season begins in June and continues into November, with fish up to 400 lbs caught here every year.

PV’s Bay of Banderas is the largest natural bay in the country. It is so large that Humpback Whales come here to bear their young, and the water teams with giant manta rays, sea turtles, and dolphins. Puerto Vallarta fishing is not as publicized as other hotspots in Mexico, but the peak seasons see a great deal of action for some of the most popular salt water fish species in the world. The Puerto Vallarta Sailfish Tournament is held here every November, and every December PV plays host to the World Billfish Championship.

One of the things that make Puerto Vallarta so unique is its diversity of fish species. This region has more offshore structure than any other part of Mexico’s Pacific Coast. Approximately 38 miles out from port lies a series of protruding rocks called the Roca Corbetena. Ten miles further out, a submerged high spot known as El Banco rises up from the ocean floor. Both rock formations feature sharp drop-offs and shallow reefs that attract huge numbers of resident fish species and migrating yellowfin, blue, and black marlin. If you come to Puerto Vallarta in search of any of these trophies, El Banco and Roca Corbetena are the places to be.

Pacific Sailfish are consistently “hot” throughout the year, with a peak season occurring between November and April where the action is pure adrenalin.

For other species, Puerto Vallarta fishing is highly seasonal, with predictable peak times for each sport fish occurring at variable times of the year. Beginning in September, black marlin, blue marlin, dorado, and wahoo begin to run. The following chart provides a quick frame of reference:
Pacific Sailfish Year Round - Peak, November - April
Blue Marlin August - November & March - April
Black Marlin August - November & March - April
Striped Marlin August - November & March - April
Dorado May -November
Yellowfin Tuna June - February
Wahoo October- March

Because of its warm water, Puerto Vallarta is not a consistent sport fishing hotspot for striped marlin. However, when temperatures suddenly drop after August, and hover in the low 70s the following spring, sporadic concentrations of striped marlin will be found off the PV shore.
Before planning a trip to Puerto Vallarta, it is always good to check online fishing reports to see what has been happening in the past two weeks. Local weather conditions of an unpredictable nature area always something the serious sport fisherman must also take into consideration.

If you are already in Puerto Vallarta, you can also call the local fishing charters to see what has been caught in the past 72 hours. Anglers can rent pangas at most of the beaches, and custom charter services are available that offer a wide range of price points, services, and amenities to tailor your day on the water to your preferences and your pocketbook.

Puerto Vallarta Deals

Puerto Vallarta Hotel Deals
If you want to hold on to your money for good times, you can find hotel rooms for as low as $76.00 per night. Everything from snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, jet skiing, and fishing can be found somewhere along the shoreline. Because Puerto Vallarta is located on the second largest bay in North America, there are over 40 different, individual beaches from which you can choose. Every one of these offers its own unique qualities.

Take, for instance, the northern beach known as The Playa de Oro. It is characterized by a wide, sandy shoreline broken occasionally into small rocky areas. Locals enjoy this beach as much as guests. Its central location to the Marina and Puerto Vallarta make it a hub of many water sports.

Many people, though, prefer peace and travel far north of Puerto Vallarta. Here, beaches are less impacted by tourism. They offer amazing views of the sunset and offer surfers fantastic waves. Winds along these beaches also make them ideal for windsurfing.

Puerto Vallarta’s most popular beach is the Playa de los Muertos, located near Old Town Puerto Vallarta itself. It has a bit of everything that people normally think of when they travel to Mexico. It has shopping, water sports, and great local cuisine. Enjoy sunbathing, banana boat rides, parasailing, and restaurants just a few steps away from where you are. Because it is a favored spot for the local people, it is also a great place for locals and guests to enjoy the water and sun together.

Some of Puerto Vallarta’s more well-known hotels are situated along this beach, and they provide guests with breathtaking views of the sunset (reputed by many to be the best in the city) and offer safe and convenient access to dining and nightlife in any one of many beachfront bars.

South of Puerto Vallarta, the beautiful Sierra Madre Mountains come down to the sea. Here, you will many small coves and hidden beaches nestled in pockets of partly-rocky, partly sandy shores. The smaller coves are ideal romantic places for couples to take walks and watch the sunsets.

The larger coves have been developed over recent years. Playa de Mismaloya was once an open expanse of private, sandy beach. Now, you find hotels and villas all along the shoreline. This has not diminished its appeal, however, because everyone in Puerto Vallarta knows where Mismaloya is, and they love it.

For those who long for the remote and primitive, the last Puerto Vallarta beach that can be reached by road is Boca de Tomatlan. It is a great place to swim or rent a panga to go on to the even more remote beaches of Yepala, Las Animas or Quimixto.

Puerto Vallarta All Inclusive

A Puerto Vallarta All Inclusive vacation package will give you all the convenience of activities, special events, luxuries and first class service, fine dining, and even drinks and dancing—all for one fixed rate that you can afford.
